TP3D has designed a new motor plate for Custom Works chassis, the 1/10 sprint cars and late models that dominate American dirt oval racing. The part is cut from 4mm carbon fibre and answers a very concrete problem encountered in the Spec classes.

Extended slots for a larger pinion

The main contribution lies in the motor mounting slots, lengthened compared to the original part. In Spec 13.5, where the motor is fixed by the rules, the only performance variable left to the driver is gearing. Yet standard plates quickly limit the pinion diameter that can be fitted. By freeing up extra travel, TP3D provides the room needed to move to a larger pinion and raise the final drive ratio — a decisive lever on fast ovals where top speed is king.

An integrated fan mount

The plate also incorporates an upper mounting slot designed to take a fan. Cooling a 13.5 in dirt oval is no small matter: long mains and constant load push temperatures up, and an overheating motor loses power well before it risks failing. TP3D is also announcing an in-house fan mount, coming soon, that will bolt directly onto the plate.

4mm carbon designed for the track

The choice of 4mm carbon puts the part firmly on the stiffness side, which limits deformation of the motor mount under torque and helps maintain constant mesh between pinion and spur. On Custom Works chassis that sometimes run several hundred laps over a weekend, that mechanical consistency matters as much as the setup gain itself.
