A POM central skid plate to smooth out the FCX18 II’s belly
Batrazzi is tackling a known weak point of the FMS FCX18 II 1/18 crawler: its stock central skid plate mount, whose raised profile catches on rock edges. The brand is offering a CNC-machined POM replacement, part number BTZ1195BK, with a noticeably flatter profile than the part supplied as standard.
In crawling, the underside of the car is a working surface in its own right. At 1/18 scale, ground clearance is measured in millimetres: the slightest step under the chassis turns a rollable line into a hang-up point, the car sits down on its belly and the wheels spin in mid-air. Flattening that area directly buys breakover angle and lets the chassis slide instead of settling.
POM, a plastic chosen to slide
The material choice matters. POM — polyoxymethylene, also known as acetal or Delrin — is an engineering thermoplastic known for its very low coefficient of friction and good impact strength. That is exactly what a skid plate is asked to do: provide a surface rock slides over rather than catches on, while also absorbing sharp impacts without cracking.
Aluminum, often seen on this kind of part, ticks the strength box but scratches and catches more. Batrazzi also claims good abrasion resistance, the real wear criterion on a part that spends its life scraping aggressive surfaces.
Direct fit, no chassis modification
The part replaces the stock mount with no adaptation: it is designed specifically for the FMS FCX18 II and uses the existing mounting points. This is the kind of modification that takes a few minutes, with no drilling or shimming, and remains reversible should you want to go back to the standard setup.
Price and availability
The BTZ1195BK is listed at $16.99, posted on 28 August 2026 at Fair RC, which distributes the Batrazzi range. It joins the aluminum chassis link sets the brand already offers for the FCX18 K10 and Hummer EV, as well as for the FCX24M Tacoma.
