Schelle Racing is rounding out its damping range for 1/8 off-road with two complementary releases: 16 mm Fat Boys 2.7H pistons and a nickel-plated 9.0 Coil Red front spring. Two fine-tuning parts that fit the house philosophy of the brand founded by Kurt Wenger.

Fat Boys 2.7H pistons machined at MIP

The new pistons keep the 16 mm diameter and the “Fat Boys” philosophy: more material thickness than a conventional piston, here marked 2.7H on the back so the size can be identified at a glance. That thickness lengthens the oil passage and changes how the fluid is sheared, which translates into more progressive damping than a thin piston with the same hole pattern.

They come in three hole counts — 5, 6 and 8 hole — and are manufactured in Covina, California, at MIP, to a custom specification exclusive to Schelle Racing. The brand claims broad compatibility: Team Associated, Tekno RC, Mugen Seiki, Kyosho and XRAY with black hardware, TLR, HB Racing and SWORKz with gold hardware.

The intended use is clearly stated: smooth tracks, big jump landings and hot weather. Three situations where the oil heats up quickly and where an overly permissive piston lets the car bottom out.

A 9.0 Coil Red front spring for traction

The second part of the release concerns the 16 mm nickel-plated springs. The newcomer is a 9.0 Coil Red front spring with a 4.7 rate, made from 1.6 mm wire and shortened to 68 mm. This combination — more active coils, reduced length — targets a traction gain at the front, particularly on surfaces where the steering end struggles to load up.

It is sold in sets of four (two front, two rear) or in pairs, which makes it possible to complete an existing set without buying the whole lot again.

A range designed as a tuning system

By releasing pistons and springs in the same announcement, Schelle Racing stays true to its approach: these are building blocks to combine, not isolated parts. For a 1/8 buggy driver racing on fast, hot tracks, the thick piston plus softer front spring pairing is a coherent set-up direction to test as a whole. Both parts are available from Schelle Racing and distributed in Europe through the brand’s usual dealers.
