The ProTek RC Ryan Maifield Edition servos have just been announced in two versions designed for competition off-road. Developed with Ryan Maifield, two-time 1/10 scale world champion, they carry a decoration inspired by the American flag and come in a high-speed version (RM650S) or a high-torque version (RM650T).
RM650S or RM650T: speed or torque
Both references share the same standard size of 40 x 20 x 37.8 mm for 72 g, and an operating range of 4.8 to 8.4 V. The difference lies in the speed/torque trade-off. The RM650S posts 0.08 s/60° and 535 oz-in at 7.4 V, while the RM650T drops to 0.11 s/60° but climbs to 650 oz-in. Enough to cover a 1/10 off-road car as well as a 1/8 more demanding on steering effort.
Aluminium case and lifetime gear warranty
The mechanicals rely on a brushless motor and a gear train covered by a lifetime warranty, a strong selling point at ProTek RC. The aluminium upper case and the heat-sink centre case target temperature control during long mains, where a servo that heats up ends up losing precision.
Detachable lead and accessories included
A welcome detail when fitting: the lead wire is detachable, and two lengths are supplied, 135 mm and 285 mm. No more extending the cable on a 1/8, and no more tucking thirty spare centimetres of wire into a 1/10 chassis. Servo arms and mounting hardware are also included. Both references, PTK-RM650S and PTK-RM650T, are announced at $159.99 each.
