Futaba posted a new version of the internal software for its dual CDR-8000L charger on 4 August 2026. Version 1.27 leaves the unit’s power output untouched, but noticeably widens the Li-Po charging adjustment range.
The Futaba CDR-8000L now goes down to 3.85V
Until now, the CDR-8000L‘s Li-Po mode only allowed a charge cut-off voltage between 4.18V and 4.25V per cell. With version 1.27, the lower limit drops to 3.85V, so the adjustable range becomes 3.85 to 4.25V. In practice, the charger can now stop well short of a full charge.
Aimed at high-power classes
The brand justifies the change with the needs of the most power-hungry classes, starting with 1/8 electric buggy. On those cars, drivers regularly want to deliberately limit a pack’s voltage — to stay within the rules, to smooth out power at the start of a heat, or to prepare a pack for storage — without going through a full discharge cycle.
A 600W dual-channel charger
As a reminder, the CDR-8000L is Futaba‘s dual-channel AC/DC charger, rated at 600W and a maximum of 16A, with balancing on both channels. The update is offered as a free download from the brand’s support page.
