The British 1:10 off-road championship delivered its verdict at its season finale, held at Batley Buggy Club, and it carries a single name: Ben Smith. The Schumacher driver leaves this season finale with both major titles of the discipline, in 2WD as well as in 4WD.
Ben Smith British 1:10 off-road champion in 2WD and 4WD
Runner-up in both categories last year, Ben Smith has finally converted. This double is his very first national title, and he takes it in the most complete way possible: neither crown came down to luck, but both were settled by a handful of points.
In 2WD, the Schumacher driver keeps a two-point margin over Tommy Hall in the final standings. In 4WD, the gap between the two men is just as tight: only five points separate the new champion from the runner-up.
A 2WD final in favour of Daniel Pole
The 2WD race at Batley did not, however, smile on the champion-to-be. It was Daniel Pole, on Team Associated, who won ahead of Luke Holdsworth, with Ben Smith completing the podium in third place. Third was enough, as it secured the title over Tommy Hall.
The double is sealed with a 4WD win
The 4WD class, on the other hand, gave Ben Smith the win his day was missing. He beat Tommy Hall (Team Associated) and Josh Holdsworth, also on Schumacher, for a podium on which the Northampton brand placed two cars out of three.
With this 2WD/4WD double, Ben Smith establishes himself among the benchmarks of British 1:10 off-road racing, in a championship that kept the suspense alive until the very last round.
