Alpha Plus‘s flagship 1/8 nitro engine moves up a gear: the Falcon-B .21 3-port, the latest evolution of the Taiwanese manufacturer’s top powerplant, is now available in Europe from Ruddog Distribution. Broken in at the factory and hand-assembled, it targets competition 1/8 buggies and truggies head-on.

Alpha Falcon-B .21 3P: what the B version changes

The “B” in Falcon-B stands for the engine’s second generation, reworked for more power and better efficiency without altering the linear character the range is known for. The crankshaft, 14 mm in diameter and built to an anti-friction, silicone-filled design, is hand-modified and fitted with dynamic balancing weights. The ABC sleeve is hand-finished too, and the piston uses a new high-wear-resistance material whose more stable thermal expansion coefficient promises long-lasting compression.

The Falcon-B .21 3P ships pre-broken-in from the factory, so it can be taken straight to the track. Be aware, however, that because of the new piston material a full break-in calls for roughly 3 litres of fuel before the engine delivers its full potential. Alpha Plus stands by that requirement, presenting it as the price to pay for durability and long-term compression.

Alpha Falcon-B .21 3P specifications

Displacement is 3.49cc with a 16.26 mm bore and a 16.8 mm stroke, the practical range runs from 4,000 to 41,000 rpm and peak power is quoted at 2.86 PS at 39,500 rpm, all for 360 g on the scales. The crankcase is aluminium, the exhaust is rear-facing and the glow plug is a turbo type. The 8 mm three-needle carburettor takes interchangeable venturi inserts to match airflow to the track, and a ceramic rear bearing cuts friction. The redesigned cooling head is purple anodised with printed graphics.

Price and availability in Europe

The engine is listed at Ruddog Distribution, which offers it at €289.99 instead of €369.99, in stock and shipped within two to three working days. That places this high-end 1/8 nitro engine built in Taichung right among the most serious competition units on the European market.
