Almost forty years after its debut, the Tamiya Clod Buster is back in the catalogue. The Japanese manufacturer has confirmed part number 58762, a re-release of the 1/10 monster truck that appeared in 1987 — the very model that set the standard for the genre: a massive body, twin motors and huge chevron tyres.
The Tamiya Clod Buster 58762 keeps its 4WD chassis with four-wheel steering
The kit uses the Super Clod Buster chassis: a 4WD drivetrain powered by two Type 540 motors, one per axle, and above all four-wheel steering. The front and rear wheels steer in opposite directions, which significantly reduces the turning circle of a machine measuring 480 mm long and 380 mm tall. The 165 mm diameter tyres remain the model’s visual signature.
A redesigned front end and a twin-motor ESC included
The injection-moulded polystyrene body comes in red, with a chrome-plated grille and supercharger for realism. Compared with the 58065 version, Tamiya has reworked the front end: the new face allows an LED lighting kit to be installed, sold separately. The sticker sheet is new as well. On the electronics side, the kit includes an ESC specifically designed to drive both motors.
What you still need
As with all of the brand’s kits, this is a model to be built: the 2-channel radio system, servo, battery and charger still have to be added, along with assembly tools. The 2026 Clod Buster is scheduled for release later this summer.
A comeback collectors have been waiting for
The Clod Buster is one of those cult models the community regularly asks for. Its silhouette, its two motors and its very distinctive handling make it as much a collector’s item as a full-size toy for rough terrain — a profile far removed from competition chassis, but one that explains the affection this 1/10 monster truck has enjoyed since 1987.
