The Tamiya Fighter Nxgen DT-04 is getting attention, and it’s around this 1/10 buggy that YouTube channel RCMag built its latest discovery video. Far from ultra-technical competition machines, this kit from Tamiya has a clear goal: to let a beginner build, understand and drive without getting lost in complexity.
The Fighter Nxgen DT-04, a Tamiya buggy designed for RC beginners
Under part number 58741, this model relaunches the historic ‘Fighter’ lineup with a completely reworked DT-04 chassis. It features rear-wheel drive, double wishbone suspension with CVA oil-filled shocks, and a new three-piece steering setup that’s more precise than previous generations. Notable for setup enthusiasts: the wheelbase can be adjusted between 265 and 280mm, allowing the buggy’s handling to shift between agility on technical tracks and stability at higher speed.
The kit ships with a Torque-Tuned 540 motor and, depending on the version, an electronic speed controller already included, limiting extra purchases for a first build. Only a 2-channel radio set, a battery and a charger remain to be sourced. Prices at European retailers generally range between 130 and 180 euros, a fitting position for an entry-level kit from Tamiya rather than a ready-to-run model.
That’s exactly the point RCMag makes in its video published around September 16, 2026: the ease of assembly, the overall sturdiness of the chassis and the availability of many optional parts compatible with the older DT-02 and DT-03 make it, according to the channel, an excellent first kit for getting into electric RC without breaking the bank.
Beyond its educational appeal, the Fighter Nxgen DT-04 keeps the fun spirit that has built the series’ reputation over the years: an accessible buggy, easy to repair and capable enough to grow with a beginner driver through their first laps.
