The 96-tooth 64 pitch spur gear joins the Nova range from Schelle Racing. Listed as SCH1328 and put online on 27 August 2026, it targets a very specific category: 1/10 buggy in 17.5 stock class, where the gear ratio comes down to a single tooth.
Why 96 teeth in 64 pitch changes something in 17.5 stock
In stock class the motor is restricted and the driver can only play with the gearing. Fitting a high tooth count spur in 64 pitch — a fine pitch — allows the setup to be fine-tuned in small increments while keeping a pinion of reasonable size. That is exactly the playing field of 17.5, where two teeth of difference can transform corner-exit behaviour on a short track.
Manufacturing: the detail that makes the difference
The spur gear is made in the United States from a material blend developed by the brand, presented as a compromise between maximum strength and quiet running. Schelle Racing states that it equalises the moisture content of the part before packaging: a detail that seems trivial but which prevents dimensional variation and gear noise early in the part’s life.
The tooth profile is of the involute type, chosen to prevent any binding during rotation. The gate is centred in order to obtain uniform thickness and correct balance at high rpm — a critical point when the spur turns constantly on a competition buggy. Finally, the tooth count is marked on the outer edge, which saves counting your teeth at trackside.
Compatibility and price
The SCH1328 requires one of the brand’s Nova slipper clutches, but it also remains compatible with AVID Triad systems. It is listed at $6, a standard price for a competition spur gear — currently sold out at Schelle Racing, a sign that the part was awaited. It is worth recalling that the brand was founded by Kurt Wenger, an engineer with thirteen IFMAR World Championship titles to his name.
