IFMAR 1:10 nitro Worlds: what the Gubbio Stage 2 report changes

With less than a month to go, IFMAR has just published the Stage 2 report for the 11th running of the 1:10 IC Track World Championship. After the announcement of the 129 entries from 21 countries, this second document turns to the technical framework of the race, which will be held in Gubbio, Italy, at the Club Automodellistico 5 Colli. It is the part teams were waiting for to finalise their preparations.

One tyre for the whole field: the Hotrace control spec

As is now standard practice at IC track world championships, the rubber is mandated. Supply goes to Hotrace, with just two part numbers: a 62 mm, 35 shore tyre at the front and a 64 mm, 37 shore tyre at the rear. That choice neutralises one of the biggest performance levers and pushes the gaps back towards the chassis, the setup and the driving.

Three approved fuels and parc ferme

On the fuel side, three products have been selected for the championship: Thunder 16% EU from Energy (Pepe Group, Italy), FAST 16EU from Runner Time (Italy) and Core 16% EU from Maxima (Thailand). The fuel regulations come into force from timed practice onwards, under parc ferme conditions: from that point on, there is no improvising with the cans.

The schedule through to 12 September

The running order is set. 4 and 5 September are reserved for IPD practice, followed by two days of free practice on 6 and 7 September. Official competition starts on 8 September with timed practice, and the week runs through to 12 September. Dutchman Jilles Groskamp arrives as defending champion with Infinity, while Dario Balestri, two-time 1:8 on-road world champion and reigning European champion, will race at home with the chance to complete his collection in nitro.
