Two steel center drive shafts to firm up the SCX30

RCAWD is moving in on the brand-new Axial SCX30 with a pair of steel center drive shafts, sold together. The pack contains both lengths the car needs — 33 mm and 42 mm — which avoids having to order two separate part numbers to equip a single chassis.

On a 1/30 crawler, the center drivetrain is the link between the transmission and the two axles, and it is also the one that absorbs all the brutality of a torque hit when a wheel breaks free of a rock ledge. At this scale the stock shafts are necessarily slim: switching to steel is first and foremost about the durability of that link, on a part that is hard to inspect once the car is assembled.

A little mass, and it sits in the right place

The secondary argument is subtler, and RCAWD owns it: metal construction adds a small amount of weight, and that weight sits right at the bottom of the chassis, below the axle line. On a model weighing a few hundred grams, those few grams down at ground level genuinely count in the car’s balance, and translate into more settled behaviour on off-camber and uneven ground. It is the same logic as an LCG chassis, applied to a drivetrain part.

Dimensions matched to 1/30 scale

The brand stresses that proportions are respected: diameters are sized for the SCX30’s architecture rather than carried over from a larger-scale part. On a model this small, an oversized shaft is immediately visible under the chassis and can also foul at full articulation. The shafts work with the stock drivetrain geometry, with no modification needed elsewhere on the car.

Two finishes and a price

The set comes in two colors, silver as AXI-3321S and black as AXI-3321BL, at the same $15.99 for the two pieces. The listing went up on 25 August 2026 on the RCAWD store, a specialist in metal upgrade parts for Axial, Arrma and Traxxas.
