Australian Jayden Edmunds completed the double at the FEMCA 1:8 Offroad Asian Championship, won this weekend in Malaysia at the wheel of his Sparko cars. The driver, who only joined the manufacturer at the end of June, leaves Putrajaya with both continental titles.
A FEMCA 1:8 Offroad Asian Championship left wide open on the oil-treated Putrajaya track
Run on the oil-treated surface of the Putrajaya Offroad RC Park, south of Kuala Lumpur, the event attracted just 49 drivers. Above all, back-to-back defending champion Phi-Long Nguyen (Kyosho) was not on the entry list this year: the Asian title was there for the taking.
Over five qualifying rounds, Edmunds took the TQ with three fastest runs, against two for compatriot Zac Foster, second with his Mugen Seiki.
Two titles in one weekend for Jayden Edmunds
In eBuggy, the Australian put together a clean sweep to lock in the TQ once again ahead of Foster. In the 12-car main, he won A1 and then A2 to lift his first FEMCA title.
That left the Nitro final, one hour long and run with fifteen cars. From the front, Edmunds controlled the race throughout to win with a comfortable margin over Foster. From fourth on the grid, Malaysia’s own Ken Ng completed the podium on home soil, also on Sparko.
