The configurable 1/24 crawler is becoming a reality at Fair RC: the American retailer, already known for its modified versions of FMS machines, launched its “Mod Your Way” programme in late August 2026. The principle is simple — instead of buying a fixed factory configuration, you build your own FCX24M before it is assembled.

Fair RC Mod Your Way: a configurator, not a catalogue

The approach is based on the FCX24M platform from FMS, a 1/24 already well established among small-scale crawling enthusiasts. On the “Build Your Own Custom FCX24M” listing (part number 12451), the buyer first selects a body from five colours: orange, black, pink, white or army green.

Next comes the running gear, and this is where the choice becomes genuinely technical. Three tyres are offered — Country in 0.8 inch, Utility and Rockweiler in 0.9 inch — paired with a wide selection of wheels: 0.8-inch Sheriff in silver or gun metal, 0.8-inch 4-Slot, plus Night Racer, Y-Spoke and Star Road in 0.9 inch, each in black or silver. Moving from 0.8 to 0.9 inch changes ground clearance and contact patch: it is not just a matter of looks.

Mechanical options at the time of ordering

Several upgrades are offered as extras, between $8.99 and $16.99 each: aluminium skid plate mount, steering link set, servo mount and brass wheel hexes. The latter are a classic of small-scale crawling, where adding unsprung mass low down directly improves stability on side slopes. Having them fitted from the start avoids a first teardown.

Personalisation goes further with custom licence plates and various miniature accessories. Fair RC states that assembly is carried out by hand, one machine at a time, with a processing time of around two weeks for personalised configurations — an installation service being offered for buyers who would rather not get their own hands into the chassis.

Entry price and positioning

The base is listed at $169.99, options not included. The positioning is clear: this is no longer a mass-production RTR, but a built-to-order machine, in a 1/24 segment where the vast majority of the offering is still sold in a single configuration. It remains to be seen whether the two-week lead time will hold up against a rush of orders.
