The Hong Kong 1/28 specialist is making a strong move: the Atomic RC MFX is a completely new competition F1 chassis, built around a linkless rear pod. Listed at $329 by the manufacturer, this kit is aimed squarely at mini-track racers running under PNWC rules.
Atomic MFX: a centre of gravity pushed as low as possible
The entire design of the MFX chassis revolves around one obsession: lowering the centre of gravity. The centre damper has been relocated and integrated directly into the rear pod, while the side dampers have been dropped down on each side of the chassis. An opening in the chassis also lets the servo sit lower. All of this with a centrally located inline battery, to concentrate the masses.
Pivot-ball front suspension and fine adjustment
The front end uses a pivot ball DWS suspension. The benefit is simple: by adding or removing shims at the arm pivot joints, the driver adjusts roll centre and camber gain without changing parts. The arm mounts offer three caster values — 1.0°, 2.0° and 3.0° — to adapt the car to the track. Steering is of the direct drive type, with a servo saver included.
Carbon, 7075 and 140 grams
With the exception of the plastic ball caps and the gear, everything is made from 7075 aluminium or carbon fibre. The carbon chassis makes it possible to reach the 140 grams required by the PNWC rules; a steel version is sold separately for those who want to add ballast differently. The kit includes a carbon front wing with EVA foam bumper, a carbon rear wing on an aluminium support, a dust-guard ball differential and a lexan body.
