FMS Model has just teased the FCX18 II, the second generation of its 1/18 crawler platform. The manufacturer announces a revised chassis and a first model dressed in a vintage-style body.

FCX18 II: an evolution of the FMS 1/18 crawler chassis

The manufacturer’s message is clear: the original FCX18 chassis was a strong performer, but the FMS crew made changes to improve it further. The nature of the model does not change — a 1/18 scale 4×4 rock crawler — but the platform is presented as a genuine second iteration, not a simple body restyle.

A vintage body for the launch

The first vehicle to receive this FCX18 II chassis will get an old-style body, in line with the in-house strategy: the FCX18 range has been built on licensed replicas of iconic 4x4s, from the Toyota Land Cruiser 80 to the Chevrolet K10, with particular care given to scale detailing.

What we know about the current generation

As a reminder, the current FCX18 range derives from the FCX24 chassis and relies on a metal beam structure with metal links and steering rods. The FCX18S versions notably add a 1212 outer-rotor brushless motor, a two-speed transmission and portal axles that raise ground clearance. It remains to be seen which of these elements are kept, revised or made standard on the FCX18 II.

No date or price yet

At this stage, FMS Model has communicated neither a release date, nor a price, nor a detailed list of technical changes. We will have to wait for the official announcement to learn exactly what has changed on the chassis.
