Shark RC Bodies is expanding its oval track shell range with the Reef Shark, a 1/10 oval body in clear Lexan aimed at decked “street stock” classes. The American manufacturer clearly positions it on the racing side, with a shape and accessory pack designed for the track rather than for the display cabinet.

A 1/10 oval body with a separately mounted roof

What makes the Reef Shark distinctive is its decked construction: the roof is not moulded in one piece with the shell, it is fitted separately on top of it. This is the format required by many American street stock categories, and it has an obvious practical benefit: if you break the roof, you replace it without throwing away the whole body.

A nose inspired by the Dodge Challenger

Style-wise, Shark RC Bodies has drawn a front end heavily inspired by the Dodge Challenger, in line with the other shells in the house catalogue: Bull Shark, Land Shark and Tiger Shark. The brand claims a realistic look without sacrificing aerodynamic efficiency, the usual compromise with oval bodies.

Windows in or cut out: two different behaviours

The most interesting point is adjustable by the driver. According to Shark RC Bodies, leaving the windows in place gives a freer-handling car that is easier to turn; cutting them out increases downforce and settles the car on very fast tracks. With the windows intact, the Reef Shark also remains eligible for Chili Bowl style racing. As always in oval, it is better to check your club’s rules before reaching for the knife: legality varies from track to track.

What’s in the box and price

  • Clear Lexan shell with protective overspray film
  • Separately mounted roof
  • Rear wing with end caps and hardware
  • Paint masks for the windows
  • Light and decoration decal sheet

The Reef Shark is announced at $56.99 from the manufacturer, a standard price for a fully equipped racing body.
