Spanish driver Alvaro Fernandez Calvo, 22, secured his Spanish 1/8 on-road championship title at the final round of the national AECAR series, held on September 15, 2026 at the CAVI track in Vigo, Galicia.
A 2026 season dominated from start to finish
Driving a Serpent Viper 990R powered by an Ielasi Tuned engine, Fernandez Calvo left no round to his rivals: he won the opening round in Almussafes (AUTET track), then Getafe (Madrid) for round two, and finally Vigo to close out the series. In Vigo he also set the fastest qualifying time (TQ) of the day in the fifth and final qualifying heat, against a 48-driver field.
This new title confirms the driver’s dominance in Spanish 1/8 nitro on-road racing, as he was already champion in 2025 according to organiser AECAR (Asociacion Espanola de Carrerismo).
A strong podium against Mugen Seiki
On the final podium in Vigo, Fernandez Calvo finished ahead of Victor Pelaez (2nd) and Jorge Martinez (3rd). Sergi Franch Codina, on Mugen Seiki, had nonetheless claimed second place in qualifying, underlining the high level of this Spanish national championship.
