A steering gyro to stabilise off-road
Hosim, better known for its entry-level RTRs, is releasing the GY-V1, a steering gyro sold for $18.99. The principle is the one already widespread in short course and monster truck: the module sits between the receiver and the steering servo, detects the start of a slide and corrects before the driver has time to react.
The brand highlights reduced wandering on rough ground and straight-line stability at speed, two situations where a light off-road car quickly becomes tiring to drive.
Specifications
The case measures 40 × 21 × 14 mm for 8.5 g, a size and weight that let it be fitted without redoing the electronics layout. It runs from 4.8 to 7.4 V, which covers a classic 6 V BEC as well as direct 2S power, and accepts analogue and digital servos alike.
Gain adjustment and reversing
A sensitivity dial allows the gain to be tuned to speed and terrain type — this is the decisive setting on this kind of module, since too much gain causes the steering to oscillate. A REV button corrects the direction of correction with one press, avoiding having to flip the module to mount it the right way round.
Compatibility and availability
Hosim announces the GY-V1 as compatible with 1/8 and 1/10 off-road cars, short course trucks, monster trucks and most standard receivers. The module went online on 27 August 2026 on the brand’s store.
