The BRCA British National 1:8 On-road Championship stopped at Wombwell last weekend for its sixth round, and it was Tim Wood who left with the win. A clear-cut response after a disappointing Round 5 at Adur and a European Championship in France that had not gone his way.
Only one driver on 15 laps in qualifying
Across the four rounds of qualifying, with 25 drivers making up the 1:8 nitro class, Tim Wood was the only one to manage a 15-lap run around a track now fifty years old. TQ was his by right. Behind him, Andrew Hastings secured second on the grid, ahead of David Spashett and Karl Dransfield.
A half-hour final led from the front
In the thirty-minute final, the Shepherd driver left no opening: fastest lap of the race and domination from the front to take his fourth win of the season. David Spashett and Round 5 winner Craig Hook completed a podium made up entirely of Shepherd chassis, while Andrew Hastings dropped to fourth.
Next stop Halifax on 5 and 6 September
The penultimate round of this eight-event championship will be held at Halifax on 5 and 6 September. A circuit where reigning champion Alex Thurston won the season opener, and where the overall standings could swing decisively in favour of Tim Wood.
