Cross RC is teasing the Ultra versions of its two 1/6 scale off-road giants: the EMO XX 4×4 and EMO XXL 6×6 crawler kits. What has been announced is not a cosmetic overhaul but a series of reinforcements designed to cope with the real world use of machines of this size.
Two sizes, the same 1/6 DNA
The EMO XXL Ultra keeps its six wheel drive configuration with a 750mm wheelbase, while the EMO XX Ultra stays on four wheel drive with a 575mm wheelbase. Both share an identical width of 392mm, which suggests running gear and axles are shared between the two versions.
An entirely metal drivetrain
The most significant change concerns the drivetrain: Cross RC announces all-metal driveshafts and reinforced transmission pins. On models of this weight, these are precisely the parts that give up first when torque rises and the tyres grip on an obstacle.
Metal roll cage, bumpers and guards
The bodywork side follows the same logic: metal roll cage, metal bumper and side guard rail as well. Enough to limit the damage during rollovers, a common scenario in crawling at this scale where weight quickly takes its toll.
Revised steering and longer wheelbase
The steering gets an upgraded servo saver as well as a revised steering stopper linkage system, two weak points as soon as a powerful servo forces against an obstacle. Finally, the EMO XX Ultra gains 55mm of wheelbase over the previous version, an increase that should make it more stable on steep climbs. Cross RC has not yet announced a release date or pricing for these Ultra kits.
